Our expat health insurance is designed to align with the main health insurance requirements for Spain’s non-lucrative visa. The policy includes broad medical coverage, repatriation benefits, and a written confirmation letter for visa applications.
Is the insurance provider authorized to operate in Spain?
Yes. The risk carrier is Advigon Versicherung AG, and the policy confirmation states that the insurer is registered with Spain’s insurance regulator, the DGSFP, under license number L1497. The registration details can be checked in the DGSFP public registry against the name Advigon Versicherung AG.
What medical coverage does the policy include?
The policy covers the core medical services needed for long-term residence coverage, including:
Outpatient medical treatment.
Prescription medication and bandages.
Radiation, light, and physical treatments.
Surgery that cannot be postponed.
Inpatient hospitalization on a general ward.
Medically necessary pregnancy treatment and childbirth.
Patient transport for inpatient treatment.
Emergency and urgent assistance inside Spain.
Are there limits, copayments, deductibles, or waiting periods?
There is no standard copayment or deductible for standard medical treatment, and there is no maximum limit on core medical coverage. Some supplementary benefits have annual caps, such as pain-relieving dentistry, massages, and inhalations. A limited exception applies to a known pre-existing condition from the 6 months before the policy start date, which has a €5,000 copayment per insurance year and a €30,000 total benefit cap over the full policy term.
For waiting periods, the policy has these rules:
If the policy starts on the arrival date in Spain, the general 31-day waiting period is waived.
Accidents and acute life-threatening emergencies are not subject to a waiting period.
Routine pregnancy checkups and elective childbirth have a separate 6-month waiting period.
Medically necessary pregnancy complications are covered immediately.
Does the policy include repatriation?
Yes. The policy includes medical repatriation to the nearest suitable hospital in the home country when medically justified, covered at 100%. It also includes the return of remains to the home country in the event of death, up to €10,000.
Is this a travel insurance policy, and how long does the coverage last?
No. This is long-term expat health insurance, not travel insurance with medical assistance coverage. The policy can be held for up to 5 years per contract term and can cover temporary trips back to the home country for up to 6 weeks per insurance year on policies of 12 months or more.
What proof of insurance is provided?
For the visa application, we provide a stamped and signed confirmation of coverage certificate stating the key compliance points, including provider registration, full medical coverage, no standard copayment or deductible, no waiting period, and repatriation of remains.
