Expat health insurance in Spain is available to people who have recently relocated and aren't yet covered by the Spanish public healthcare system, as well as short-stay visitors and part-time residents. Coverage can be used for up to 5 years from your arrival in Spain, after which you'll need to join the Spanish public healthcare system (Seguridad Social) if you're eligible, or switch to a comprehensive private insurance plan. People who have lived in Spain for more than 5 years, people aged 75 and over and professional athletes are not eligible.
Who is eligible for expat health insurance in Spain?
You can apply for our expat health insurance if you fall into one of the following categories:
You've recently relocated to Spain and need health coverage before becoming eligible to join the Spanish public healthcare system.
You're staying in Spain on a short-term basis as a visitor or part-time resident, and you don't plan to establish permanent residency.
You're a Spanish citizen who has never lived in Spain, and you're staying in the country temporarily.
You've lived in Spain for less than 5 years, and you need proof of health coverage to renew your visa.
Who isn't eligible for expat health insurance in Spain?
Our expat health insurance is not available to the following groups:
People who have lived in Spain for more than 5 years.
People aged 75 and over.

How long can I use expat health insurance in Spain?
You can use our expat health insurance for up to 5 years from your arrival date in Spain. After 5 years, if you plan to continue living in Spain, you'll need to either join the Spanish public healthcare system (Seguridad Social) if you're eligible, or switch to a more comprehensive private insurance plan.
