Am I covered for theft or robbery inside and outside my home?

Yes, you are covered both at home and outside your home, but the type of incident and whether force is involved matters. Whether you’re at home or outside, the main factor that determines coverage is the presence of force (like break-ins or assault). Theft without any sign of force is generally excluded.

  • Inside the Home

    • Robbery and burglary is covered. This includes incidents where there is forced entry, violence, or intimidation.

      • Example: A thief breaks your window and steals your laptop: this is covered.

    • Theft without force is not covered.

      • Example: Leaving a door open and someone sneaks in.

  • Outside the Home

    • Robbery is covered, if there is violence or intimidation

      • Example: Someone snatches your phone from your hand using force — this is covered, but only if this external coverage is included in your policy.

    • Theft without force is not covered

      • Example: Pickpocketing, losing your bag, or unattended items being stolen typically do not qualify.
