While our home insurance provides broad protection, there are certain situations, items and events that are not covered. Understanding these exclusions helps avoid surprises when making a claim.
General Exclusions (Apply to All Policies)
The insurance does not cover damage or losses resulting from:
Intentional acts, fraud, or gross negligence by the insured
Lack of maintenance, wear and tear, corrosion, rust, or gradual deterioration
Cosmetic or aesthetic damage that does not affect functionality
Events classified as extraordinary risks, such as:
Earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions
Flooding caused by rivers or the sea
Acts of terrorism
War, civil unrest, riots or nuclear incidents
Government or authority actions, including confiscation or demolition orders
What Is Not Covered for the Building (Owners)
The policy does not cover:
Buildings or parts of buildings under construction or major renovation
Gardens, plants, trees and lawns, except where replanting coverage is specifically included
Structural damage caused solely by settling, subsidence or design defects
Damage caused by poor construction quality or faulty materials
What Is Not Covered for Contents (Owners & Renters)
The insurance does not cover:
Professional or business equipment, tools, or stock (unless specifically insured)
Cash, securities, documents, or payment cards, beyond very limited sublimits
Vehicles, caravans, trailers, boats or their contents
Animals or pets
High-value items (art, jewellery, collections) that have not been declared
Theft without visible signs of forced entry, when required by the policy
