Embassies, consulates, and other third parties can scan the QR code on your expat health insurance certificate for Spain to check that your policy is genuine and see its current status.

The confirmation of coverage for expat health insurance in Spain includes a QR code that links to our verification page. Scanning the code shows the policy’s current status and basic policy details straight away. Anyone without the QR code can enter the policy number and date of birth at verify.feather-insurance.com instead. The page shows whether a policy is active, not active yet, or canceled. It hides most of the policy number and the insured person’s name, and doesn’t show medical, payment, or account information.

What is the QR code on my expat health insurance certificate?

The QR code on your expat health insurance certificate links to our official verification page at verify.feather-insurance.com. The certificate is the confirmation of coverage document in your Feather account, and both its English and Spanish versions include the QR code. Embassy and consulate staff, immigration lawyers, landlords, and anyone else you share the certificate with can use the page to check that your policy is genuine. They can also see its status on the day they check, without contacting you or our team. You don’t need to do anything to set up the QR code.

How does an embassy or consulate verify my expat health insurance certificate?

An embassy or consulate can verify your expat health insurance certificate by scanning the QR code or by entering your details on our verification page. Scanning the QR code with a phone camera opens the verification result directly, without entering any details.

To verify a certificate without scanning the QR code:

  1. Open verify.feather-insurance.com in a web browser. The Check an insurance policy form opens.

  2. Enter the policy number in the Policy number field exactly as it appears on the certificate.

  3. Enter the date of birth in the Date of birth fields as day (DD), month (MM), and year (YYYY), exactly as it appears on the certificate.

  4. Click Verify certificate. The page shows the policy’s status and policy details.

To check another certificate, click Verify another certificate on the result page. If the QR code doesn’t open the page, the details can be entered at verify.feather-insurance.com instead.

What status does the verification page show for my expat health insurance policy?

The verification page shows the status of your expat health insurance policy on the day of the check, together with the date and time of the check under Last verified. The status depends on where your policy is in its lifecycle:

  • When your coverage has started, the page shows Insurance is active and confirms that the policy is currently active according to our records.

  • When your policy has been issued but your start date is in the future, the page shows Insurance is not active yet and the date your coverage starts. This confirms that your policy exists and was issued, which is common for visa applications made before arrival.

  • When you request a cancellation, the page shows Insurance is canceled straight away, along with the date you requested it. The insurance end date in the policy details shows the date the cancellation takes effect. If that date is still in the future, your expat health insurance coverage continues until then, even though the verification page already shows the policy as canceled.

The page always shows the current status of your policy, including for a certificate you shared earlier.

What information can someone see when they verify my certificate?

The verification page shows only basic details of your expat health insurance policy, and hides part of your personal information:

  • The policy number is partly hidden, and only its last characters are visible.

  • The insured person’s name is partly hidden, and only the first letters of each name are visible.

  • The insurance start date and insurance end date are fully visible.

The verification page doesn’t show your date of birth, your premium, your medical information, or your payment details. Verifying your certificate doesn’t give anyone access to your Feather account.

Do I need a new certificate after changing the start date of my expat health insurance?

Changing the start date of your expat health insurance policy gives you a new policy number, so you need to share a new certificate. When you change the start date, we cancel your existing policy and create a new one. The verification page then shows the policy on your old certificate as Insurance is canceled. Download the latest certificate from your Feather account and share it with the embassy, consulate, or anyone else reviewing your application.

Why doesn’t my expat health insurance certificate have a QR code?

Expat health insurance certificates for Spain include a QR code since September 2026, so a certificate you downloaded before then may not have one. Download your certificate again from your Feather account to get the latest version. Anyone reviewing a certificate without a QR code can still go to verify.feather-insurance.com and enter the policy number and date of birth. You can contact our support team for more assistance or additional resources.
