What is the pregnancy coverage on private insurance?

Or private health insurance includes comprehensive maternity care, covering pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal care.

What is included?

1. Pregnancy care (antenatal)

  • All necessary check-ups and monitoring during pregnancy

  • Diagnostic tests and specialist consultations

2. Childbirth

  • Hospital delivery (including caesarean section if needed)

  • Medical team (obstetrician, midwife, anaesthesia)

  • Hospital stay in a private room with a companion bed

3. Postnatal care

  • Care for the mother after delivery

  • Follow-up medical support

4. Newborn coverage

  • Baby is automatically covered for the first 30 days at no extra cost

  • Full inpatient and outpatient coverage if delivery takes place in a network hospital

  • After 30 days, the baby must be added to the policy to stay covered

Important to know

  • Waiting period applies (typically around 8 months for childbirth)

  • Delivery must take place in an network-approved hospital

  • Some services (e.g. fertility treatments like IVF) are not included

  • Pregnancy care itself is covered earlier, but planned childbirth requires the waiting period to be completed

  • Courses for childbirth preparation are also included
